This is an 80/20 lawn top dressing made of a sand/soil blend that has been screened to a consistent texture, but not washed. It can be used as an underlay or for top dressing lawns and is an economical choice when a premium product is not required. Where it is important to have a clean product, we recommend the Premium Top Dressing.

1 T 3/4 T 1/2 T 1/4 T 20Kg Bag
$52 $41 $28 $16 $8

This is a blend of roughly 50% sand and 50% soil, which has been screened to remove any larger particles like small rocks, roots and debris. It can be used as an underlay for turf or for a top dressing depending on your needs. Generally, though, the sandier 80/20 or Premium Top Dressing is recommended as a better choice for top dressing projects.

As the name suggests, Recycled Turf Underlay is suitable for use as an underlay when laying turf and is a soil that has been reclaimed and recycled from sites. It is screened to 10 mm to remove very large particles, rocks and pebbles and is generally considered a popular and economical underlay.

Each project has its own considerations, but where you have invested a lot of money on a premium turf, such as Sir Walter, we would recommend that you not skimp on the soil you would choose to underlay it. Go for the 80/20 mix in such a case.

1 M3 3/4 M3 1/2 M3 1/4 M3 25 Ltr Bag
$57 $44.75 $30.50 $17.25 $8

Our Garden Mix is made up of a rich blend of Soil, Sand, Ash, Bark Fines, Mushroom Compost and Wood Mulch. It is ideal for general garden planting, but be aware it is not suitable for some natives, or for azaleas or camellias, because it contains mushroom compost. In these cases we recommend you choose the Native Garden Mix.

If you are planting a vegetable garden, the organic garden mix is suitable, although we recommend our Veggie Mix as it has added manures to enrich the content.

This one has it all! Our Veggie Mix is a blend of Soil, Sand, Ash, Bark Fines, Mushroom Compost, Cow Manure and Duck Manure. It is high in organic matter and fertiliser and is a soil that drains well. It is suitable for raised garden beds or in the ground. It is considered the best soil for most veggie gardens, especially when supplemented regularly with Seasol Power Feed plant food, a combination that produces great results.

Be aware that due to the mushroom compost in it, the Veggie Mix is not suitable for planting certain natives or azaleas and camellias.

Our Premium Garden Mix is a blend of Soil, Sand, Ash Bark Fines and Duck Manure. It is more finely graded, so has less coarse material than the Organic Garden Mix. It is a very well-draining soil, which makes it great for planter boxes or generally, where drainage is important. Premium Garden Mix is a different variation of the Organic Garden Soil and does not contain mushroom compost, so provides a safe alternative to Organic Garden Mix, which is not suited to some natives, azaleas and camellias.

Because the Premium Garden Mix Soil drains better, it is not generally recommended for vegetable beds, as it will require more watering. For Vegetable gardens, the best choice is usually the Veggie Mix.

1 M3 3/4 M3 1/2 M3 1/4 M3 25 Ltr Bag
$125 $95.75 $64.50 $34.25 $4.50

This is a standard potting mix, with no fertiliser added. This Potting Mix is suitable for plants in pots or containers because they have a different flow of air and water available to them than plants growing in the ground. The mix is a blend of soil, sand and organic material such as decomposed bark fines. It has a slightly larger particle size to promote good drainage and aeration and avoid plant roots getting drowned in their containers. This mix is Ideal for green-thumbed patio garden enthusiasts, and for use in hanging pots and decorative planters.

We stock smaller quantities as well as have bulk potting mix available.

1 M3 3/4 M3 1/2 M3 1/4 M3 25 Ltr Bag

Our Native Mix is a beautiful blend of Soil, Sand, Ash Bark Fines and Duck Manure. It is suited especially to some natives, azaleas and camellias as it does not contain mushroom compost. Otherwise, it is much the same as Premium Garden Mix, but with less manure. Native Mix provides a good and safe alternative to Organic Garden Mix but is not recommended as a soil for Vegetable gardens, as it drains more readily and the veggies need more water. A better choice for them would be the Veggie Mix.

Cow manure is one of the best nutrients to add for most plants. Collected from the ground it is then screened to an even consistency. By way of contrast, product from pigs and domestic animals can contain parasites which can harm humans, and for that reason should not be used in compost or gardens.

The addition of this organic matter will serve as a good fertiliser for plants as well as helping your soil retain moisture.

Mixing cow manure, one part to three with vegetative waste, will also allow the nutrients to hold better for use in the soil. Fresh product has a high nitrogen content, which might cause plants to burn, so composting and curing for a time, such as with our cow manure, is advisable.

Mushroom Compost is made of the compost which mushrooms have been grown in. The addition of this organic matter helps the soil to retain moisture, while also serving as a fertiliser for plants. Mushroom Compost is not guaranteed to be aged or composted, so be aware it can be very alkaline, especially when fresh, which can be harmful to some plants. Mushroom compost is not recommended for some native plants and for azaleas and camellias. Cow Manure is a better option in such cases.

Turtle Nurseries are reliable mushroom compost suppliers. You can contact us with any queries or orders on:

This manure is collected from duck sheds and contains a mix of duck manure and bedding, which is usually comprised of shavings. It is not necessarily composted, but is not as strong a manure as others. By adding organic matter such as duck manure to your soil, you can help it to retain moisture. Duck Manure also serves as a good and safe fertiliser for most plants and does not smell too bad, especially when compared to chicken manure.
